Star Wars® Patents – In a galaxy far far away…

[tweetmeme source=”Intellogist” only_single=false]

The holiday season is upon us, and we are fast approaching that magical time of year when our favorite Star Wars® characters sing poor-man versions of Randy Newman songs to us. That day, of course, is Life Day. Life Day is the day where Wookies gather around a large, Styrofoam prop tree and growl songs with Luke, Han, Lei, C3PO, and R2D2, to pre-emptively punish George Lucas for Jar Jar Binks and the aliens in Indiana Jones 4. In honor of Life Day, here are the best Star Wars®-related patents!

1) Hand-holdable toy light tube – US 6,641,280 A

toy light tube

You'll cut your hand off, kid.

Who doesn’t love lightsabers? Any kids could play in the backyard for hours with this toy…until they poke someone’s eye out.

2) Robot – US D458318

Robot

Beep beep boop boop.

This almost-R2D2 gives you immediate street-cred as you can say it is a prototype for the new Star Wars movie that will never get made, Star Wars 7 – The Final Chapter 3D (contains 100% CGI, no actors were paid in the making of this film).

3) Action figure and accessories – US 7,588,478 A

Robot 2

This kind of looks like C3PO, right?

Your fake R2D2 wouldn’t be complete without a fake CP3O.

4) Action figure stands – US 2007/0087651 A1

Stand

Let the Wookie win.

You can’t have a proper Life Day without at least one Wookie, and this stand keeps your Chewbacca upright and ready for display. Just make sure you keep everything in the original packaging.

5) Methods for Managing Content for Consumer Electronic Devices – US 2010/0186053 A1

Tv

Hmm, what's on TV tonight?

Watch Star Wars on-demand at any time. Sorry, the original versions are not allowed, nor can you get the censored version of The Phantom Menace, where Jar Jar is always muted and covered by a black box.

Next time: Danny gets the greatest gift for Christmas, Bohemian Rhapsody, Space Oddity, and more from William Shatner.

  1. Star Wars patents should be celebrated on the 4th of May and at no other time.

  2. The “holdable light tube” doesn’t really look like a lightsaber at all and the patent isn’t held by Lucasfilm or any entity even related to Star Wars.

Similarly, your “R2-D2” and “C-3PO” patents have nothing to do with Star Wars. Here’s the *real* deals:

    R2-D2: patentimages.storage.googleapis.com/pdfs/USD251628.pdf
    C-3PO: patentimages.storage.googleapis.com/pdfs/USD251627.pdf

The content management one… Why was this even included. Just because is shows “Star Wars” on the display doesn’t mean it has anything to do with Star Wars.

A few seconds with Google would have revealed the following page with 62 actual patents related to Star Wars:

It’s the first damn link when searching for ‘star wars patents’!

This article is garbage and those responsible for it should be ashamed.
