Search Resource Round-Up: EAST Training Package, 7 New Patent Translate Languages, and SureChem Direct!

Intellogist isn’t able to hand out candy during Halloween, but we do have some treats ready.  Instead of candy corn (who needs more of that, anyways?) we have a variety of useful patent search resources for you to sink your teeth into.  During a recent foray onto the USPTO website, I noticed that there was now an introductory training package available for EAST (Examiner Automated Search Tool), so we’ll take a quick look at this helpful learning resource.  Patent search professionals are constantly on the lookout for updates to both free and subscription patent search tools which may improve their prior art searches, so I was excited to hear about two such updates: the recent release of the chemical patent search product SureChemDirect and the addition of seven languages to the Patent Translate tool on Espacenet.

The Evolution of Free Chemical Patent Searching: The New SureChemOpen

[tweetmeme source=”Intellogist” only_single=false] Since SureChem was purchased by Macmillan Publishers Ltd. in 2009, it has undergone a variety of changes that are chronicled in the Major Recent Updates section of the SureChem System Report on Intellogist. In April 2012, the SureChem website announced SureChemOpen, a free chemistry search product that was being launched prior to the release of two subscription search products (SureChemPro and SureChemDirect).  The SureChem website offers a comparison of all three products, and these features are listed for SureChemOpen:

  • $0 per month
  • Free patent chemistry search
  • Search and view patent chemistry and full text
  • Search SureChem patents alongside Royal Society of Chemistry journals and ChemSpider
  • No data export

If you’re not familiar with SureChem, I’ll briefly touch on a couple of interesting developments in this blog post. SureChem is a patent and literature search system that focuses on chemical data searching. In late 2009 SureChem was purchased by Macmillan Publishers Ltd. and with the acquisition came new developments.
