Get More Patent Legal Status Info Through the Updated European Patent Register

The European Patent Office regularly updates its products, such as the patent search system Espacenet and the European Patent Register, with innovative new features and links.  The European Patent Register provides procedural and legal data on EP, Euro-PCT and PCT-filings, and within the past year we’ve seen useful updates (such as links to the Belgian, Finnish and Norwegian Patent Registers) added to the system. This month, the EPO released a new set of improvements for the European Patent Register, including:

  • An RSS feed that lists the latest EP Register Maintenance news.
  • Additional information about “Appeal following Opposition.”
  • The option to sort contents in the “Event History” view by date.

Continue reading to learn about these and many other updates recently added to the European Patent Register and the Register Alert system, and also get the latest news about plans to create a Federated Regsiter, which will display the latest official data supplied by the national patent authorities for a selected file in a consolidated table!

Alert and Export Enhancements on TotalPatent, Plus Links to the European Patent Register!

Last time we looked at the TotalPatent System Report, a number of updates had been made to the patent search portal, including additional full text and bibliographic authorities, the ability for the Semantic Search feature to identify multiple concepts, increased download limits, a Merge tool to normalize data fields while analyzing the data, and improvements to the Work Folder feature. LexisNexis recently released another round of TotalPatent updates for October 2012, and we have a fresh overview of these enhancements provided by the LexisNexis website. The TotalPatent system now includes (or will eventually add) an export option for independent claims from US granted patents, links directly from EP records to the European Patent Register, better performance for displaying Work Folders and subfolders, and improvements to the alerts feature. Some of these enhancements seem to have been implemented, but the LexisNexis website is not particularly clear about the availability of these new features.

Stay up-to-date on the latest changes to the TotalPatent search system, and learn about recent export options, alert enhancements, and new European Patent Register links after the jump!

Database Update Round-Up – European Patent Register and DWPI

Previously, we looked at updates to the Global Brand Database, SciFinder, and Google Patents, and today I have a fresh round of updates about two important resources for any patent professional: the European Patent Register and the Derwent World Patent Index (DWPI). The European Patent Register (formerly known as Register Plus) is the official register of legal status information for the European Patent Office, and it was recently updated in April with a variety of new features, bug fixes, and changes to both the user interface and back-end system.  Derwent World Patents Index® (DWPI) is a file of patent information produced by Thomson Reuters that “sources patent data from 47 patent-issuing authorities and 2 journal sources,” and the file contains many value-added special indexing features, including Derwent Titles and Abstracts, Derwent Assignee Codes, Derwent Families, Derwent Classes, Derwent Manual Codes, and Chemical Fragmentation Codes.  The DWPI file is available on numerous platforms, including Dialog, STN, and Thomson Innovation.  STN recently added numerical search options for the DWPI file, and DWPI has been discontinued on the Delphion platform.

After the jump, learn about the new features and interface changes to the European Patent Register, and we’ll also look at the new numerical search features for DWPI on STN and discontinuation of the file on Delphion.
